We are offering one lucky primary school in Cherwell the opportunity to host 'Trade School, a hands-on learning experience that gives pupils the chance to learn about what it's like to be a bricklayer, using real bricks, mortar and site tools......all from within their own school environment! 'Trade School' is the brainchild of Richard Francis, Director of Wain & Francis Ltd who are a housebuilder based in Witney. The programme allows pupils to get hands on with real site materials, as well as learn about tools, materials and Health & Safety in a construction environment. An underlying theme for Trade School is the use of the story of the Three Little Pigs….and we all know what the smart piggie built his house from!
We funded two sessions towards the end of the last school year, at Dashwood Banbury Academy (Thursday 7th June) and West Kidlington Primary (Wednesday 11th July). 30 pupils across Years 3-6 took part at Dashwood and 56 Year 6 pupils took part at West Kidlington.
Whats it like?
One very excited Year 3 pupil at Dashwood had this to say: “We had to make a sausage with cement so we could spread it onto a brick. We made a pyramid of bricks. I liked that we used real cement and the adults helped us when we needed it! Thank you”
And it wasn't only the pupils who enjoyed themselves, teachers at Dashwood had fun too: “Seeing our pupils engaged in learning new skills that may inspire a career when they are older is absolutely fantastic. It has been a wonderful experience to have skilled professionals inspiring our young people”
We are looking to fund one more session to a primary school in Cherwell district area. If this is of interest, please contact Michelle Patterson email@example.com by 5pm on 12th October 2018.
