Oxfordshire’s first Apprenticeship Training Agency (ATA) – The Apprenticeship & Training Company Ltd – has formed a new Board to provide strategic direction on a variety of topics as the company prepares for business - recruiting, employing and arranging training for Apprentices on behalf of employers.
The not-for-profit company has been set up on behalf of Cherwell District Council (CDC) by Company Director Paddy Patterson and Project Manager Caroline Clapson, Community Governance and Social Infrastructure Adviser with the Bicester Delivery Team at CDC, who were successful in bidding for a development grant from Oxfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership (OxLEP) to help establish the ATA. Early work has been supported by a group of stakeholders including local authorities, OxLEP and local training providers.
The initial focus of the company will be the construction sector, which is experiencing a severe skills shortage at a time where the need for a skilled workforce across Oxfordshire is great, particularly in the Cherwell district. The North West Bicester site alone is set to provide employment and training to a target number of 300 construction Apprentices to help deliver 6,000 homes and other developments.
Oxfordshire Apprenticeships’ Melanie Ringer is delighted to have been given the opportunity to join the Board and was honoured to chair the inaugural Board meeting in July and subsequent meeting last month. Joining Mel on the Board are: Cllr Barry Wood, Leader of Cherwell District Council; Cllr John Donaldson, grounds maintenance business owner, Banbury Town Councillor and Lead Member for Housing for CDC and Richard Lambden, a Key Account Manager with Just IT Training & Apprenticeships.
