An apprenticeship enables you to achieve a recognised

qualification whilst gaining invaluable skills and

experience in a real workplace – and getting paid! Sound

good?  Let us explain…

First of all, you've probably heard that apprenticeships

are only for builders and hairdressers, right?  WRONG.....

What is an apprenticeship?

An apprenticeship is best described as 'learn while you

earn'.  An apprentice is employed by a business, paid a

salary, given a set of responsibilities and tasks while also working towards a recognised qualification and gaining valuable work experience.  Check out this useful guide to apprenticeships.

Types of apprenticeships available

Apprenticeships are available in over 1,500 job roles in a variety of workplaces and more are being developed to help more employers and industries benefit from the scheme.  Take a look at this latest A-Z guide produced by the National Apprenticeship Service for an idea of how many career pathways can start with an apprenticeship.

Where do I look for apprenticeships?

A great place to start is to check out our new Apprenticeship vacancies page which includes information on apprenticeships available across Cherwell district.  You should also register with the 'Find An Apprenticeship' service.  It's free of charge and you can set up 'alerts' to let you know when the types of apprenticeships you are interested in are available.
